While many countries around us are still engaged in a race towards xenophobia and discrimination led by the State itself. The results of the elections have offered us another 4 years without deniers, racists and xenophobes. in charge of the country. There is a lot of work to advance in 2024 and there are 3 million Spaniards abroad who are equally expectant of what will happen with the demands that are arriving or that were frozen due to the unexpected electoral advance. One of those demands was the Statute of Spanish Citizenship Abroad , which was on track to be approved in the second half of 2023 and had to be delayed. Why should emigration, who left our country, have rights? There is much hope in this renewal of the statute that after the elections was already in a public hearing period.
The former Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, already explained in the Plenary Session of Asturias of the General Council of Spanish Citizenship Abroad (CGCEE) that this new text will serve Phone Number Database to offer the conditions and the general regulatory framework for Spaniards abroad. "We hope that it can be closed as soon as possible and the opinion of this Council will be very important when it comes to shaping a regulatory framework that improves the return conditions for those who want to return and also the support and help we give to those that they are abroad and that they are Spanish". One of those demands was the Statute of Spanish Citizenship Abroad, which was on track to be approved in the second half of 2023 and had to be delayed.
The work of finalizing the journey of this statute is in the hands of the new minister, Elma Saiz Delgado, who in her recent appearances has made it clear that work on this text continues to be a priority for her ministry. The CGCEE, through the new Technical Commission on Legal Affairs, has worked on the text and has commented on possible improvements that better reflect the current needs of the diaspora. The new statute should be approved in the first half of this year and we can only expect opposition from the extreme right party that has never voted in favor of anything that represents improvements for emigration , much less for immigration. As I already explained in my last article of 2023 : “In 2024, positive changes for emigration must be accelerated.”
